All Work and No Play? No Way.

This weekend my husband and father-in-law took on the task of ripping up the carpet and installing wood flooring in our living room. We had no idea what a task this would be. The video makes it look so easy, we thought it would take 2 days. They started on Friday.

 

And well, let's just say right now, the living room looks like this:

Sooo close, as they have about a quarter of the room, along with the hallway left to do, which will probably take about one more day.  It looks beautiful, we couldn't be happier with it. The second it is finished, we are putting up our Christmas Tree.

On Saturday afternoon Madison and I listened to that ripping, hammering and cutting of floor covering long enough before deciding to take off for the afternoon to do a little shopping.  Because she needed jeans.  OMG, like, dire need.  And shopping is always fine with me.


We returned home to find Drew in need of a nap, so we rested up a bit before dragging him out of the house for the evening.

We enjoy exploring our city.  Indianapolis has so much more to offer than typical malls and worn-out chain restaurants.  We like to visit local shops, support the little guys and find the places that take a little more digging to discover.
Like Square Rootz Deli in the quaint, historic area of Fountain Square, which is where we typically head for First Friday. Madison hasn't been there too many times, so this excursion was extra fun.

Drew was just trying to be good, but yes, in the end he tried the brownies along with his so-hot-it-steams-your-glasses-coffee.  How could you resist?

Looking out the window of the deli, Maddie spotted the Fountain Square Theatre Building, which houses an old Duckpin Bowling Alley. We walked over to take her inside the old building to have a look around.

The building has stood in Fountain Square since 1928.  It has many nooks and crannies that have remained since the very beginning.  I was glad Maddie found them so interesting. It is musty, has poor lighting and the elevators can't hold more than about 6 people, but the charm far outweighs the aging decline.

On the fourth floor we found the tiny, perfectly preserved Duckpin alley.

We had a fun night, and a very full weekend of work and play.  Of course, when we returned home from our outing, we had a few homebodies to answer to...

"When is this floor going to be finished??"
Okay, okay... the mice were away, but these cats didn't wanna play.
